Hello and welcome to my latest blog in what seems to be the hottest summer for years. I have released my latest book: ‘My Unreal Real World’, which is now on Amazon and which I am really pleased about. It has been well received so far by friends. As previously mentioned, this book focuses on mental health and borderline personality disorder. This is aimed at teenagers and young adults, as opposed to children’s fiction. This is what I am going to discuss in today’s blog.
The reason I started writing with children’s fiction, was that I had always enjoyed the stories and fantasy worlds from those kinds of books and the fact that they really allow the imagination to run wild. This genre enabled me to write for children aged nine and above so that they could enjoy an adventure created from my mind. The themes in those books included freedom, courage, team work and adventure.
As previously mentioned, I was then asked by a friend to write a book with a theme of mental health (borderline personality disorder). This meant that my latest book is a lot darker and as a result I could not picture anybody below the age of twelve reading the book. After research and further conversations with those affected, I have tried to paint as best a picture of borderline personality disorder as possible and as a result, have had to create a rather sad and dark story. My aim of writing this and future books on mental health, is to paint a picture to readers of fiction, aged twelve and above, of what individuals with borderline personality, endure.
In the future, I may possibly write children’s fiction books again, especially as I thoroughly enjoyed writing my first three books and I have plenty more ideas. For now, I am focusing on books for teenagers and young adults, looking at themes of mental health. Not only is this a topic I am really interested in but I hope to give readers an important message about the feelings and experiences of those who have mental health issues.
I have now begun planning my sequel to ‘My Unreal Real World’, and I look forward to starting to write it. For now, enjoy your summer everyone.
