October 2017: Reading and Learning

As many people will be saying: “Not long until Christmas now” As I write this, I am unsure exactly how many weeks it is until Christmas but do agree that this year has flown by. What a fantastic year it has been too. Whilst working through the year, I have faced many challenges and successes (most notably my new job in Project Management in Bath). Amongst all these events though, I continue to read, write or plan daily as I look to deliver more and more stories to you good readers.

On the topic of reading, I would like to focus today on the importance of reading other fictional books. I have recently joined a local library in order to have greater access to more books. Ultimately what I want to gain from this, is to read and learn from the great variety of fictional books out there.

Reading these books really does help my imagination and also, I enjoy discovering what kinds of scenarios confront different characters.. Making sure that I read the most popular books on the shelf (or mostly sold online these days), not only helps my creativity and imagination but also my style of writing. Whether the style is the language, description, layout or length of chapters; reading other books really does help me learn as a writer.

Learning is something that is crucial to writing as with anything in life. Learning how I can improve my books by looking at what others write, I consider essential to becoming a better writer. What better way is there to improve in an area of life than to follow others who are expert in that area?

To learn further, I have also been in contact with other authors; they have all been very helpful . I have also recorded what works well and not so well in my writing and I like to reflect on this regularly.

As I say, I make sure that on a daily basis, I read fictional books with a view to improving my writing skills.. I hope that you too will be able to learn from these blogs and from my books. As usual, please contact me if you would like to know any more about any aspect of my writing at all.
