Since my last blog, much progress has been made on my second book: ‘ A different world of school’ (now named). I continue with my approach of plotting out the key events of a chapter and then following my imagination to decide what happens in each section of the book. How will the book end? I still do not know myself. Today, however, I want to explore the journey of Matty, Dodds and Lou and how their relationship with each other helps them through difficulties encountered in the story.
The three main characters of the story are Matty, Dodds and Lou. Matty and Dodds are best friends but actually are opposites in terms of character, whilst at times, Lou is caught in the middle. Although they are opposites, Matty and Dodds need each other in many ways. For example, Matty helps a nervous Dodds overcome challenges, whereas Dodds tries to inject some common sense into Matty, who is not always the brightest of characters.
The idea of these two being opposites, is to show that you do not have to be exactly the same characters to be best friends; you just need loyalty and support in friendship. So far in the book, there have been some very dangerous challenges, such as the rainbow path and the thoughtless bridge. A new character to the book: Jake, has shown that it is not possible to tackle such challenges alone but when Matty supports the others through these situations, it proves just how important friendship and support are.
As the book progresses, the adventure will continue to become more and more challenging. The loyalty and support of friendship, not just between Matty and Dodds but between many of the characters, will need to become stronger and stronger. If the good characters of the book are to overcome Master Lee, they will need to utilise each other’s strengths.
By my next blog in October, I hope to be finishing the first draft of the book. I am off to the United States of America for a holiday for a couple of weeks now. I hope you have all had a fantastic summer holiday. I look forward to writing to you all in my next blog.
