What lights me up

In today’s blog I am going to focus on the following:

  • What lights me up

None of this should be treated as professional mental health advice. As with my podcast, social media and any other materials I produce on topics around mental health, self esteem, confidence and personal growth this is me sharing my own experience as an individual, working with a coach, being formerly a coach and other unnamed individual stories (unless permission gained to share their name). I am not a qualified mental health professional. Please seek professional help where appropriate to do so.

Today I had an interesting conversation with a podcast guest  and one thing that came up was feeling the energy in your body rather than listening to your mind in regards to directing your own life. This made me think, and I agree so much with it. I’m going to reflect on it here.

In the last few years I’ve really had experience of this without realizing. I’m proud of myself in the way that I’ve dived into things and tried things.

One of the things that I noticed gives me energy is writing, I am so present and in a place of hyperfocus at times with it. I love being able to create, share my thoughts and express myself whether that’s fiction or nonfiction. The energy I get is exciting.

Likewise when I go to a personal growth event, especially in person getting around like minded individuals. Another one has been walking and listening to audios.

I started to notice down the line things like confidence coaching started to drain me, I would get exhausted thinking about those calls and on the calls. Certain things in jobs drain me like learning about something I don’t give a fuck about but have to help deliver a project on it…. Just being honest.

So then I started to think about purpose and mission and life direction… deep stuff. So many times I’ve changed my mind. I want to be a writer, no, YouTuber, no, Coach, no, Sales, no…. Just earn a load and travel….

It frustrates me sometimes as it costs a lot of time and money.

I’ve found though that when I know I enjoy something my body has a more awakening feeling. When it doesn’t it gets tired. Too many things that drain you will exhaust you… believe me I’ve spent many times in the last year sleeping for 8-10 hours to still feel exhausted only to need a nap as well.

So for me right now what the good energising things look like are: lots of exercise, writing, podcasting, videos, going on calls in communities I enjoy, learning whilst walking and spending time with mates as much as possible.

That’s what I wanted to share today, don’t allow your mind to just focus on things you ‘have to do’ or ‘should do’. Yes there are things like tax returns etc that may not light you up but try and minimize that as much as possible and add in the genuine energy adding things to your life… that’s what I intend to do, we only have one life.
